Inside Out [A Righteous Choice] Devotions Day 3

Knowing vs. Being Known

Devotional
Imagine standing before Jesus and hearing Him say, "I never knew you." These might be the most terrifying words in all of Scripture, especially when spoken to people who were actively serving in ministry; prophesying, casting out demons, and performing miracles in His name. The shocking truth is that it's possible to do religious activities without having a genuine relationship with Jesus. These people knew about Jesus and even used His name, but they never truly surrendered their hearts to Him. They were busy doing things for God while remaining strangers to God. The word "knew" here doesn't refer to intellectual knowledge but to intimate relationship. It's the same word used to describe the deep, personal connection between a husband and wife. Jesus isn't looking for people who simply know facts about Him or even perform religious duties. He's looking for people who are in genuine, intimate relationship with Him. This challenges us to examine our own hearts. Are we focused on doing things for Jesus, or are we cultivating a real relationship with Him? The doing should flow from the being, not the other way around. When we truly know Jesus and are known by Him, our service becomes an overflow of love rather than an attempt to earn approval.

Bible Verse
'On judgment day many will say to me, "Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name." But I will reply, "I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws."' - Matthew 7:22-23

Reflection Question
Is your relationship with Jesus based on intimate knowledge of Him, or just religious activity?

Quote
There is a big difference between doing things in Jesus' name and having an intimate relationship with Him.

Prayer
Lord, I want to truly know You, not just know about You. Help me prioritize relationship with You above religious performance.
